Pak vs Ind Asia Cup update:

Manoj Tiwary Raises Security Concerns Over India-Pakistan Clash in Asia Cup 2025

India Set to Face Pakistan in UAE on September 14

The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled for September 14 in the UAE. However, former Indian cricketer and current Bengal minister, Manoj Tiwary, has voiced strong opposition to the match, citing recent national security concerns and ongoing military operations.

Tiwary Questions Logic Behind Sporting Ties Amid Tensions

Speaking to ANI, Tiwary questioned the timing and appropriateness of a cricket match between the two arch-rivals. His comments came in the aftermath of the Phalgam terror attack and the ongoing Operation Sindoor, a military campaign by India targeting terror networks allegedly based in Pakistan.

> “The situation is highly volatile. How can we even consider playing Pakistan in such an environment? This decision needs to be reassessed,” said Tiwary.

He further added, “Our Prime Minister has clearly stated that Operation Sindoor is still underway. Given that, how can we justify playing cricket with a country we’re engaged in conflict with?”

Recent Precedent: India Pulled Out of Women’s Asia Cup

This isn’t the first time recent events have impacted India-Pakistan cricket ties. Following the Phalgam attack, the BCCI had withdrawn from the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup, refusing to allow Indian participation in matches involving Pakistan. The political fallout also led to tensions within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), with India reportedly urging members to shift the council’s meeting from Dhaka to a neutral location. Despite these efforts, the ACC meeting was eventually held virtually with key officials from BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket in attendance.

Government Maintains Stance: No Objection to Multi-Nation Tournaments

Despite the controversy, a senior official from India’s sports ministry recently stated that the central government will not restrict the Indian team from participating in multi-nation tournaments where Pakistan is also competing. This includes the Asia Cup and potentially the ICC Champions Trophy in the future.

Official Confirmation from ACC and PCB

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), confirmed the Asia Cup schedule on social media. He announced that the tournament will be hosted in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with the full match itinerary to be released shortly.

> “I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket!” Naqvi posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The Bigger Picture

The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry has always been more than just a game. With deep-rooted political and diplomatic sensitivities, every match is scrutinized far beyond the boundary ropes. Manoj Tiwary’s remarks underscore the complexities involved when sports and geopolitics intersect. While cricket fans around the world eagerly await the high-octane clash, the final decision may still be influenced by the evolving political situation and national security considerations.
